Artist Statement

I am an abstract painter best known for my work in oil & cold wax medium.  I love the physicality and unpredictability of this medium which allows me to paint loose with multiple layers – adding, scraping, and digging through using mark making to create interesting patterns with suggestions of a figure sometimes visible or just simply energy.  I am influenced by nature, rough textures, and spiritual aspects.  I want my paintings to explore the interaction between surface and gravity, experimenting with my materials.  Mainly my focus and inspiration is with the interplay between emotion and intuition and the unpredictable.  As an artist, I am on a continual quest to explore the connection between the inner and outer space.  Each painting is part of a larger chain deeply rooted in nature and the sublime.
