Artist Statement

I love to spend time outdoors and I love to paint the natural world. Sometimes that means taking my easel outside; other times it means painting from my imagined view of nature. I like to explore the rhythms and textures of the world. The inner lives of animate and inanimate objects fascinate me.

 I paint in oils as well as acrylics. Each has its way of teaching the painter something about the other. Painting from life as well as from one’s imagination also have their ways of informing the other.

 Whether I am painting quickly outdoors, chasing the light and shadows that constantly change, or indoors with stencils that I design and cut, the important thing is to reflect the spirit of the subject through color and movement.

 I always imagine the trees and plants talking to each other. There is so much wisdom to be found in their wordless conversations. Our empathy is a path to saving the planet’s future.
