Artist Statement

I want to understand what language cannot explain, a knowledge that exists just beyond my limits. My work comes from a quiet and deep spaciousness, both from within and outside myself. The winter landscapes of the Midwest prairie, the vast Arctic regions of snow and ice, and the African savannahs lying beneath night skies all exemplify environments that evoke a sense of quiet mystery. These are locations I’ve traveled to in my search to find traces of that which remains elusive. When I draw, I focus on the belief that there are elements of the unknown existing outside what is immediately visible. I regard my drawings not as definitive outcomes, but as a means for investigating concepts that are yet unknown to science and religion.
