Artist Statement

Growing up in the Midwest, my family’s garden was the setting for some of my earliest and most meaningful memories. A frigid winter melting into spring is an experience visually and metaphorically embedded in my conceptual and experimental work as I explore themes of emerging beauty and the detritus of decay expressed through vibrant colors and organic forms.  As a primarily three-dimensional artist trained in architecture, my work is inherently design oriented and I cut and measure to form and tailor patterns that are conceptually rich. Folded or printed, laminated or sewn, my processes are coupled with an inward and personal form of artistic caretaking. I enjoy documenting my three-dimensional work through two-dimensional processes.  I find that I discover more about my work as I create a monoprint from a paper cutout, or photograph and draw an immersive detail. This reflective and explorative practice is a way I tend my own interior garden while inviting others experiencing my work to do the same.
