Artist Statement

My abstract paintings are a result of observing the natural world and the universe over the course of a lifetime. Breathtaking landscapes, emblazoned sunsets, flora & fauna, and celestial beings in the night sky are synthesized in my mind and visually reconstructed, a sort of mental mapping of my perceptions.

My process is strictly intuitive, meaning the work is done without any preconceived plan. Therefore, the painting experience alternates between joyful exuberance when things are working out well and a challenging mystery to be solved when they are not. Both scenarios seem to occur in every painting.

Of primary interest to me are the colors and shapes within nature, and I strive to achieve an ethereal luminosity in most of the work that points to the divine. My lifelong and ongoing study of color theory aids in this pursuit.

In this frenetic, rapidly changing world we live in, I seek to create paintings that allow the viewer to pause, breathe, and imagine an otherworldly existence.
