Artist Statement

The inspiration of my art is the journey of self-exploration, the path of uncovering and expressing the authentic self and finding the courage to live with what has been discovered. This concept has been a source of endless fascination over my lifetime, not only for myself, but also because this a universal journey, one we all share. The aim of my artwork is to bring many facets of self-exploration to life in a variety of images, some colorful and light-hearted, some powerfully deep, that reflect process and progress. My art seeks to intuitively express in abstract images the joy and yet also the mystery in contemplating the human experience. Applying layers of paint and uncovering what lies beneath to find new ways of seeing reflects the journey of bringing to light the authentic self. It is my greatest joy to paint with energy and passion, often using vibrant colors or contrasts with lots of texture to mirror the rich details of the inner adventure. I often marvel at the power of the creative mind to show images and symbols that are more powerful than words to convey a meaning or emotion felt and understood by many. I often refer to my art as spiritual abstracts.
